CCST Expert Briefing showcasing the perspectives from some of CCST’s partners on “Environmental Impacts of Wildfire in California.” Panelists will discuss the effects of wildfires on air and water quality. Moderated by Susan Hubbard, CCST Council Member and Associate Laboratory Director at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. March 30, 2019:
The California Natural Resources Agency and Department of Conservation have announced the award of $20 million in block grants for regional projects that improve forest health and increase fire resiliency. This Regional Forest and Fire Capacity Program helps communities prioritize, develop and implement projects that strengthen fire resiliency.

March 30, 2019:
Governor Gavin Newsom releases the Community Wildfire Prevention & Mitigation Report earlier this month by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), which identified 35 priority fuel-reduction projects that can be implemented immediately to help reduce the public safety risk for wildfire.

March 30, 2019:
Building on lessons learned from past catastrophic wildfires, Governor Gavin Newsom today proclaimed a state of emergency throughout California ahead of the coming fire season. The Governor is directing his administration to immediately expedite forest management projects that will protect 200 of California’s most wildfire-vulnerable communities.

March 22, 2019:
The state’s first Wildfire Technology Innovation Summit will take place on March 20-21, 2019 in Sacramento, California. The Summit will gather thought leaders and practitioners from state and local governments, academia, industry and others to inform and engage each other about the challenges of wildfires and tools that can help us better manage these devastating disasters.

Feb 19, 2019:
Dr. Larry Dale from Berkeley Lab’s Energy Technologies Area will provide an overview of his EPIC-funded research project exploring potential impacts of California’s changing wildfire risk on transmission and distribution systems. Visit the EPIC Symposium website.

February 7, 2019:
Join CCST for a discussion with a team of experts from UC San Diego, UC Berkeley, NASA-Ames/CSU Monterey Bay, and the Moraga-Orinda FireDistrict who are developing and implementing technologies to provide real-time information on wildfires to emergency responders. Watch the Video.

January 23, 2019:
The Fire Research Group will utilize advanced manufacturing technologies such as additive manufacturing and 3D printing to embed sensors into devices that will produce inexpensive next-generation firefighting tools for harsh environments.

November 15, 2018:
The group is a collective of researchers from the College of Engineering, the Space Sciences Laboratory (Berkeley) and Lawrence Berkeley National Labs.
